📚 Read Free Book 🔥 {Secure Download} Pdf Daikon Oleh* Samuel Hawley by A sweeping and suspenseful novel of love and war, set in Japan during the harrowing final days of World War II, that is premised on an intriguing historical the United States actually delivered three atomic bombs to the Pacific, not two, and the first falls into the hands of the Japanese Imperial Army, who recruit a local civilian-scientist to figure out what it is, how it works—and how it might be used against the Americans.
War has taken everything from physicist Keizo Kan. His young daughter was killed in the Great Tokyo Air Raid, and now his Japanese American wife, Noriko, has been imprisoned by the brutal Thought Police. An American bomber, downed over Japan on the first day of August 1945, offers the scientist a shocking chance at salvation. The Imperial Army dispatches him to examine an unusual device recovered from the plane’s wreckage—a bomb containing uranium—and tells him that if he can unlock its mysteries, his wife will be released.
Working in secrecy under crushing pressure, Kan begins to disassemble the bomb and study its components. One of his assistants falls ill after mishandling the uranium, but his alarming deterioration, and Kan’s own symptoms, are ignored by the commanding officer demanding results. Desperate to stave off Japan’s surrender to the Allies, the army will stop at nothing to harness the weapon’s unimaginable power. They order Kan to prepare the bomb for manual detonation over a target—a suicide mission that will strike a devastating blow against the Americans. Soon, Kan is faced with a series of agonizing decisions that will test his courage, his loyalty, and his humanity.
This is a gripping and powerfully moving saga of love, survival, and impossible choices. It is set amid the chaos and despair of the world’s third largest city lying in ruins, its population starving and its leadership under escalating assault from without and within. A remarkable debut novel that is the result of twenty-eight years of work by its author, Daikon is a haunting epic that calls to mind such classics as Cold Mountain and From Here to Eternity—and introduces a singular new voice on the literary landscape. 🔥 📚

📚 Read Free Book 🔥 {DOWNLOAD} PDF The Strength of the Few (Hierarchy #2) Oleh* James Islington by A reasonable, though not exceptional, period of productivity for the beginning of this first draft – I’m now about 20k words in. What I do have currently is a great starting point, though, and it’s been fantastic getting back into writing something completely new after spending so much of this year tweaking and editing.
In terms of 2025: it’s going to be a bit of an unknown, mainly due to major renovation work being planned for our house, and there’s no easy way to tell how disruptive that will be. So I’m not going to try and estimate what my progress will look like quarter-to-quarter next year, but the overall aim will be to have a full draft (200k-250k words) completed by the end of it.
(I’ve decided not to announce a title, for now, too: I’m 90% settled on my working one, but it’s always possible something better will occur to me as I write, so there’s no need to force the issue at this early stage.)
Not much more to add, here, other than I’m feeling really good about the direction of this book, and genuinely looking forward to working on it next year - which is a great place to be!

📚 Read Free Book 🔥 {Secure Download} Pdf The Scientist and the Serial Killer: The Search for Houston's Lost Boys Oleh* Lise Olsen by Between 1971 and 1973, more than twenty-seven teenage boys disappeared from idyllic, tree-lined neighborhoods in Houston. This is the true story of how one dedicated forensic scientist finally identified the victims of the "Candy Man," one of America's most prolific serial killers.
Houston, Texas, in the early 1970s was an exciting place—the home of NASA, the city of the future. But a string of missing teenage boys, many from the same neighborhood, hinted at a dark undercurrent that would go ignored for too long. While their siblings and friends wondered where they’d gone, the Houston Police Department dismissed them as thrill-seeking runaways, fleeing the Vietnam draft or conservative parents, likely looking to get high and join the counterculture.
It was only after their killer, Dean Corll, was murdered by an accomplice that many of those boys’ bodies were discovered in mass graves. Known as the “Candy Man,” Corll was a local sweet shop owner who had enlisted two teenage boys to lure their friends to parties where they would be tortured and killed, and then buried.
All of Corll’s victims’ bodies were badly decomposed; some were only skeletal. Known collectively as the Lost Boys, many were never identified. Decades later, when forensic anthropologist Sharon Derrick discovered a box of remains marked “1973 Murders” in the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office, she knew she had to act. It would take prison interviews with Corll’s accomplices, advanced scientific techniques, and years of tireless effort to identify the young men whose lives had been taken. But one by one, nearly all of their names have been returned to them.
Investigative journalist Lise Olsen immerses readers in this astonishing story, simultaneously bringing to life the teens who were hunted by a killer hiding in plain sight and the extraordinary woman who would finally give his victims back their dignity and their names. The upside-down murder mystery reveals new information about this case and astonishing facts about why these victims were forgotten in the 1970s—and why what happened to them remains relevant. 🔥 📚

📚 Read Free Book 🔥 {GET} PDF Every Weapon I Had: A Vietnam Vet's Long Road to the Medal of Honor Oleh* Paris Davis by The story of a Green Beret commander's heroism during the Vietnam War, and the long fight to recognize his bravery.
When Col. Paris Davis was selected to lead one of the secretive Green Beret A-teams organizing indigenous resistance to Communist incursions into South Vietnam, his commanding officer warned him that some of his soldiers would resent his authority. This was no surprise; there were only a handful of Black officers in the Special Forces, and the Civil Rights movement was gaining momentum back home--his detachment landed in Binh Dinh Province in April 1965, only weeks after the merciless attacks on activists marching on Selma. Davis quickly won the respect of his soldiers, and would soon fight beside him as bullets snapped past and mortars exploded overhead.
On June 18th, Davis led a group of inexperienced local villagers and Special Forces soldiers in an attack on a Viet Cong base in Bong Son. They were met by a superior enemy force, and Davis led the charge in a grueling firefight, engaging in hand-to-hand combat when his rifle jammed. He was seriously wounded, but he disobeyed a direct order to retreat until he dragged three injured Green Berets off the battlefield to safety.
Think Only This Of Me is an inspiring tale of valor and sacrifice, set against the backdrop of major escalations in both the Vietnam War and the Civil Rights movement. It is also a story of deferred honor and delayed recognition; Davis earned the Silver Star and Purple Heart for his actions, but his nomination for the Congressional Medal of Honor was repeatedly "lost." No official reason has ever been given for this oversight, but those who fought to correct it believe that it was motivated by racial prejudice. Davis was finally awarded the Medal in 2023, 58 years after the battle. 🔥 📚
